Who Wants to be a Millionaire coughing cheat Charles Ingram has put the scandal and shame behind him to live the life of a country gent on an estate owned by the Duke of Somerset.

The former army major, who was convicted of deception to pocket the £1million jackpot prize in 2001 with the help of an accomplice who ‘coughed’ to indicate the right answer, lives a quiet life on a farm with his wife Diana.

Ingram rents an annex to a 18th century farmhouse overlooking cattle sheds and grain barns in the village of Maiden Bradley on the border of Wiltshire and Somerset. The picturesque property is in West Wiltshire Downs, which is in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Although his home is on a sprawling dairy farm he plays no role in farming and is instead a paying tenant of the Duchy of Somerset.Ingram, then aged 38, amazed audiences in 2001 when he scooped the top prize on the ITV primetime show while answering erratically to host Chris Tarrant’s questions.

Sir Rod Stewart won’t be slowing down.

In his 79th year, he continues to lead a busy year at full throttle. Highlights for 2024 include his 200th performance at a Las Vegas residency, an ongoing world tour and a new swing album.

“Swing Fever” is a collaboration with Jools Holland and the talk show host’s rhythm and blues orchestra that explores some timeless tunes from the big band era, such as “Pennies From Heaven,” “Lullaby of Broadway” and “Sentimental Journey.”
Stewart, no newcomer to the American songbook, approached Holland with one request: “I’m not going to do slow songs,” Stewart said. “I want an upbeat fun song, which is what we need in these dark times we’re living in.”

Stewart expressed gratitude by performing songs created at a time when songwriting was a specific job, even before bands wrote their own.Holland , who began his career in the 1980s band Squeeze, joked about how the paradigm has changed.

Allen Carr (September 2, 1934 – November 29, 2006), an avid smoker who smoked five packs of cigarettes a day until 1983, is best known as the author of books on the fight against nicotine addiction.

Born in London, Allen Carr began smoking during his military service, at the age of 18. In 1958, he earned a degree in accounting. Finally quit smoking in 1983 after a session with a hypnotherapist, but to break up with nicotine addiction helped him not hypnosis. The session gave him the opportunity to realize how easy it is to quit smoking. From that moment Allen Carr began active work to popularize the new method among smokers.

In June 2006, Carr was diagnosed with lung cancer and was predicted to have no more than 9 months to live. Carr responded that “since I smoked my last cigarette 23 years ago, I have been the happiest person on Earth. And I still feel that way today.”

Allen Carr passed away on November 29, 2006, at the age of 72, at his home in Malaga, Spain.

From Carr’s perspective, smokers do not actually experience the pleasure of smoking cigarettes: smoking merely relieves the unpleasant symptoms that occur as nicotine leaves the body after the previous cigarette. This is how nicotine addiction arises and persists. Carr states that the “relief” a smoker feels when smoking a cigarette, the feeling of returning to a “normal” state, is experienced by the non-smoker on a regular basis. Carr also notes that the dependence on smoking is actually much lower than is commonly believed, the symptoms of quitting are actually generated by the mind of the former smoker, and if you put aside the doubts and fears associated with the process of quitting, it will not be so painful. In addition, Carr states that in order to stop smoking, you do not need to have tremendous willpower, because willpower is not required for a person to stop doing something that he does not want to do.

David Akin explains why hundreds of economists support the increase; how politicians on all sides are criticizing the increase; how Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is responding; and why poor Liberal communication is contributing to the criticism – April 1, 2024.
Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre is asking Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to call an emergency meeting with the country’s premier to discuss the federal carbon price.Poilievre circulated the letter following a $15-per-tonne increase in the consumer price on carbon emissions that began Monday.
