Grand Tour host James May has responded to a complaint from fans who offered the star some words.

The tour guide recalls how an American visitor tried to buy one of the ancient tests from the librarian, saying: “He said an American tourist had visited the library and asked to sell him a book.

“He then told him that if he sold it he would give him a house in Florida, but he said no. This is the legacy of his great-grandparents.”

In response to that question, James joked, “I think you did the right thing. You don’t need a home in Florida. It’s hot and sticky and full of people with guns.”

The comment left one fan unhappy as they criticized James online.

They were responding to a post in which James mocked his choice of car in an episode of The Grand Tour .

James said online: ‘Now that Sand Job is out, I can make the official announcement that I imagine many of you have been waiting for…’.

“Yes, my Maser [Maserati] looked the best for a mile of desert. Get over it.”
